We’re hiring! Edinburgh Festival Fringe Box Office Assistants

The World-Famous Stand Comedy Club Edinburgh is one of the UK's best all year-round comedy venues.
We're now seeking organised and driven individuals with a passion for live comedy to join our Box Office Team for The Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
You should have previous experience in customer services, maintaining databases and administration.  You will be trained to use our own in-house box office programme.

40 hours per week temporary contract from 1 -28 August at an hourly rate of £10 per hour.
You will be based out of our admin and box office at 5 York Place and at The Stand’s New Town Theatre.
box office hours are 9am-Midnight 7 days a week, but rotas will be made up for the month ahead. We would expect you to be flexible

Main Purpose of Job:

  • To provide an excellent box office customer service and perform all aspects of box office administration.
  • Responsible for replying and processing customer, act, agents, venue and promoters’ enquiries.
  • Being knowledgeable about shows and performers to maximising box office sales through effective customer service.
  • To promote high standards of professional practice.
  • Feedback issues and complaints to the Administration & Programme Manager along with Venue Mangers to ensure we continue to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations.

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintaining databases.
  • Carrying out box office tasks for all venues.
  • Ensuring that customer service areas are clean and set up appropriately.
  • Being an ambassador for the Company at all times.
  • Assisting with the smooth running of the box office.
  • Upholding the security and confidentiality of information you have access to, including but not limited to personal information about acts, staff, customers.

General Duties

  • You will maintain our box office systems. You will book tickets for customers in person, over the phone and also via email. The role encompasses all aspects of box office customer care, including but not limited to refunds, complaints and feedback.
  • Providing information to customers and acts. You will be expected to have an understanding regarding our different venues, including any Fringe venues or pop-up venues.
  • Being prepared to be the first point of call for acts, customers and members of the public.
  • Remaining calm and polite when dealing with customers fairly in all situations, even in heated circumstances, and pass on customer complaints to your manager.
  • Assisting with admin for venues run by The Stand Comedy Club.
  • Assisting with processing Stand Together memberships and mail-outs, merchandise and ticket orders.
  • You will be trained to help updating our website.
  • You will be trained on how to send sales reports to acts, agents and members of staff.
  • To assist with updating contact information in our phone directory and maintaining all admin files.
  • To assist with setting up promotional codes in our box office and on our website.
  • Ordering stationery and maintaining necessary equipment within the office.
  • You may be required to undertake other duties such as transporting items between venues and / or running to the shops or post office.
  • To ensuring that box office posters and promotional materials are in good condition and up to date and to feedback requirements to your manager in a timely manner.
  • You may be required to watch shows or performances and give feedback to your manager.
  • You may be asked to assist with the general upkeep of The Stand’s flat, 4 York Place.

Ticketing and Payments

  • You will be trained to use our booking system.
  • To accurately take cash or card payments for tickets and merchandise.
  • To accurately record any refunds given or any notes required by venue staff on customers original booking relating to access or booking changes.
  • You will be required to Id customers and adhere to show age and venue age restrictions.
  • To check with your manager before booking in any complimentary tickets.

General Box Office

  • To follow the procedure for opening and closing your box office.
  • You will be required to work at satellite Stand Comedy Club box offices during festivals.
  • To ensure there is sufficient stationary report back any missing items.
  • It is your responsibility to feed back any concerns regarding any aspect of your work that you feel unsure about / about your capability to undertake it.

Communications and Presentation

  • You must arrive to your shift on time.
  • You are expected to treat your fellow staff members with respect and to follow the guidelines as outlined in the staff handbook.
  • It will be your responsibility to provide the company with your personal information for payroll and to keep track of your hours and report them to your manager in advance of payroll.
