The legendary Stand Comedy Club welcomes you to our brand-new Stand Academy, where seasoned professional working comedians are tutors for our tough but fun bootcamp comedy course taking place the day before!
It’s not for the faint hearted, our intensive one-day course helps students create a firm foundation; starting their career as a stand up or even to use these skills in the workplace to create knock out presentations and improve your public speaking.
Now, it's their chance to perform on the stage before a paying audience at the world-famous Stand Comedy Club, Edinburgh!

How the Comedy Business works
Students will be encouraged (but not bullied) into taking part at our showcase night. Using these skills learned at the Stand Academy, you could be taking the mic at the iconic Stand Comedy Club during our Showcase night.
Your very first five minutes as a comedian could be on the same stage that launched Frankie Boyle and Kevin Bridges.
10.00am – 5.30pm (you do get a break for lunch)

This course is suitable for 18+ as it takes place on a licenced premises.

Our tutors are headline standard working comedians with a wealth of experience. The course is primarily led by Susan Morrison and Jojo Sutherland, but others may drop by too. There will always be at least 2 professional regular Stand Comedy Club comics.
Do I need experience of any kind to do the course?
Do I have to take part in the showcase?
Nope. Some people might be interested in the writing aspect of comedy, some others may find the course invaluable to improve public speaking outside of the comedy world and yet others may just want to find out how its done. So, no, the showcase isn’t compulsory
What do I need for the course?
Do we get fed?
We don’t offer a lunch option, but there are many great places to grab a bite surrounding the Stand, or you can bring a packed lunch. Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits will be available throughout the day.
What do we get?
You’ll come out with a set you can perform on any comedy stage. We’ll provide you with a list of open mic night and club contacts to start you on your way, AND you’ll be getting that invaluable tool of all comedians – the notebook. Every student will get a branded Stand Academy notebook and pen.
I’ve been given this as a gift, but the date doesn’t suit. Can I change it?
Couldn’t be simpler just complete your purchase and call us on 0131 558 7272 or email email@example.com we can then transfer your booking into the giftee’s name to enrol them into the course we can also gift wrap this for you (please note last postage date is Monday 17 December for Christmas).
Do you give refunds?
We cannot give refunds but places can be transferred with advance notice onto another course date where available. 48 hours notice must be given before the course is due to start for this to take place.

Please note that all debit and credit card transactions are subject to a 50p booking fee per ticket. Accepted payment methods are Visa, Mastercard, Maestro. We do not accept American Express. Please note this is a booking fee and not a surcharge. There is no booking fee applicable for in person sales. A maximum of 6 tickets can be purchased in one transaction online per event date. Please note that this event is separate from any other refund policy noted - refunds cannot be given but dates can be switched with 24 hours notice. For more, please contact our box office.
