Edinburgh Fringe Accessibility

The Stand Comedy Clubs and The Edinburgh Corn Exchange Venues are always happy to accommodate those with access needs however we do have to be honest and let you know that our venues have a number of steps to gain entry and exit.

Due to the nature of Edinburgh and listed buildings unfortunately access may not be suitable or available for all. This namely relates to The Stand Comedy Club York Place Venues.

Please call and book in advance so that we can make your visit as hassle free as possible.

We can only accept a limited amount of wheelchair users per show due to fire regulations. This also applies to anyone who has issues standing during a show and may require additional assistance - however - for Fringe 2021, we do envisage all tickets will be seated for this year.

Whist our staffs are happy to assist where appropriate, we cannot help to carry customers with large electric wheelchairs.

Carers/helpers are entitled to a complimentary ticket and disabled customers are entitled to a concession ticket. To take advantage of this, please let us know at time of making your access booking.

Bookers who are accompanied by a carer can jump to the front of the queue to gain easy access to a show – please arrive early and in advance of doors opening to do this. Only 1 carer per person would gain early entry. Any other members of a party would have to wait until general access to the venue.

If you arrive late we cannot make guarantees that your original request can be met as it becomes increasing difficult to hold a seat/space. If late, you may not have the best view of the stage and may find the only available space is at the back of the venue.

The Stand Venues

All Stand Comedy Club venues listed below are located within the basement of listed buildings where no lifts, elevators or chair lifts exist due to the listed buildings locations. In all cases, those who have booked access requirements with their booking should make themselves known to front of house to gain early access where available.

Stand 1

Stand 1 is in a basement and access is by stairs at the front of the building from the pavement of York Place. Stairs are well lit and in good condition.

Seven steps down, turn 90 degrees, then two more to gain access. Staff always available to assist where appropriate.

  • Not accessible without stairs (assistance offered)
  • Seating is level and unfixed within the venue
  • 1 Wheelchair Space available per production
  • Street parking and NCP car parks also available nearby
  • Regretfully, staff are unable to assist electric wheelchairs.

There is a temporary ramp over the 8 steep stone steps from street level to the venue foyer. The ramp has a small turning circle of 1m and therefore unfortunately is not suitable for an electric wheelchair user. Once inside the venue foyer, stall seating is accessible without any further assistance. Staff are happy to assist where possible and are unable to assist electric wheelchair users.
