Jessica Fostekew: The Silence of the Nans

Sunday 21st January 2018

After a smash hit season with ‘The Silence of the Nans’ at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Jessica Fostekew takes it on tour around the UK next Spring!
(Read in film-trailer voice): Last summer Jessica did two reasonably significant things. One, a story of pure joy. The other, a tale of entrapment, torment and gelato. This show tells the second story. The horrid one.
This is an epic comedy-horror-story about a disaster at sea from which there was no escape.
(Normal voice): Jessica co-hosts the mighty Guilty Feminist podcast which has reached over 10 million listeners. She starred in this year’s hugely acclaimed new BBC2 sitcom from Sharon Horgan and Graham Linehan Motherland as well as the award winning BBC1 drama Three Girls. Jess also hosts BBCR4 Extra’s Comedy Club and BBC Radio Comedy Awards (Radio2, R4Extra). Jess writes for BBC R4’s News Quiz and C4’s 8 out of 10 cats amongst other things.
'Wears her smarts on her sleeve. Great stuff.' Guardian
'Consistently hilarious' **** Fest
'Intensely funny' Time Out
'Fostekew mixes a solid self-assuredness with a strong line in self-deprecation, creating a smart and hilarious show' **** Skinny
'The show is a masterclass in comedic storytelling and didn’t flag for a moment. It was like spending an hour in the company of your funniest friend who has a story she can’t wait to tell you' ***** DarkChat
'Immaculately written...This is a very good hour from a talented and funny performer. Don’t miss out' **** One4Review

Lee Kyle's White Elephant Stall

Sunday 28th January 2018

Lee Kyle , the regular host of our kids show, brings a family show where anything can happen.
I mean, within reason, he's not going to split an atom or anything.
The show will be different each month, sometimes it'll be a game show, sometimes a quiz, sometimes improv, sometimes a chat show. Sometimes there will be guests, sometimes there won't. Maybe it'll be a musical one month! Sometimes, Lee won't even be there and there'll be someone else doing the show instead - but they'll be awesome too!
No matter what, it's going to be brilliant man. Come along, don't be a square.

Fancy a Sunday Roast? Why nor book a table in our Bistro upstairs for after the show? We also do Kids Sunday Lunches for only £5!
Hot food available in the club or why not treat yourself to some pre-show dining at The Stand Bistro open Mon/Tues from 5pm (show nights only), Wed-Sat from 11am and noon on Sundays.

LAUREN PATTISON: LADY MUCK
One of the brightest young talents on the comedy scene, Lauren Pattison has arrived at The Stand after a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Fringe with her Best Newcomer nominated debut hour about embracing your flaws.
A fresh and fierce female voice, Lauren has supported Katherine Ryan and Matt Richardson on tour and was featured on the BBC New Talent Hotlist 2017.
'Tremendous coming-of-age tale with razor wit and brutal honesty...' ★★★★★ List
'a breath of feisty fresh air' ★★★★★ Herald
'a spiky, deliciously bawdy and remarkably assured debut hour that deserves to be one of the break-out hits of this year's Fringe' ★★★★ Telegraph
'robust and impressive' ★★★★ Scotsman
'Yet even when packing a punch, her demeanour is breezy, frank and friendly, making her wickedly engaging company' ★★★★ Chortle
'Because of Pattison’s Geordie roots and indecent subject matter, comparisons will no doubt be made with Sarah Millican, who also arrived on the Fringe (some years ago now) and blew everyone away. Those comparisons would be unfair, though: whisper it, but Pattison might just turn out to be a whole lot funnier.' ★★★★ Telegraph
'stunning youthful debut' ★★★★ Sunday Times
