Michael Redmond - I WROTE A JOKE IN 1987
Renowned stand up, Michael Redmond, left his native Dublin thirty years ago to try his luck on the London comedy circuit....with just one joke.
This is the story of that journey, how the joke changed his life and how it was received for the first time in London. During the course of the show he will tell us how Madonna was the first person to ‘hear’ the joke before he left Ireland and her reaction to it.
He will also tell us how the game of cricket was implicated in the Irish potato famine and also why he has left something very unusual in his Will to Piers Morgan.
Michael is performing his tenth show at the Edinburgh Fringe, following a number of hugely successful shows, including “ Eamon, older brother of Jesus “ from his BBC Radio 4 series.
Probably best known as the monosyllabic priest, Father Stone, from the iconic Channel 4 sitcom, Father Ted, Michael promises that he will be using some two and three syllable words and might even throw in a four syllable one...oh, he also guarantees that there will be more than one joke in the show.
Michael is also well known in Glasgow where he has been at the helm of his Sunday Service show at The Stand for over 12 years.
Star of BBC’s Scot Squad and award-winning comedian, Chris Forbes returns to the fringe with an electrifying hour of stand-up, songs and sketches. Inspired by variety shows of old, Forbes pulls out all the stops to present an eclectic live experience that represents his unquiet mind.
