Raymond Mearns is on a mission to raise the human spirit through
laughter. Billy Connolly also described him as 'a man who knows
how to swear, properly.' A winning combination we think. |
Those who know Scottish comedy know what to expect from Raymond Mearns.
Having built his reputation solidly across the UK circuit, this highly
accomplished comedian is in demand by all of the premier UK comedy clubs
and internationally by various corporate bodies and expatriate Scottish
clubs and societies.
Sharp gags and observations, first class audience interaction and
masterful storytelling combine to render a Raymond show as more of a
memorable event than simply a comedy gig as anything can, and often
does, happen!
As well as his highly acclaimed live work, Raymond has also been
building a successful career as a comedy / character actor in fields of
television and film with notable recent credits including: The BBC
Scotland Sitcom - Legit (2007) and the Ken Loach directed films It's a
Free World (2007) and Ae Fond Kiss (2004).
The 2008 Fringe Offering Shaggy Dog Stories is a collection of Raymond's
anecdotes in his own unique style, sometimes slowly, sometimes
frantically, but always with an edge and always funny!
The idea for Shaggy Dog Stories follows on from the success of Raymond's
last two Glasgow International Comedy Festival solo shows in 2007 and
2008.
Each of these sensational sell out shows were filmed and yielded two
brand new, hour and a half long, DVD films that capture the excitement
and spontaneous nature of Raymond's act as he delivers over three hours
of totally unique and original material. A significant number of people
are now enjoying the shows over and over again as the DVD's have been
selling steadily at Raymond's live shows and via his website.
Late 2008 and 2009 sees Raymond continue to stay busy as he combines his
UK wide and International work with a planned tour of venues around
Scotland and late 2008 will also see the release of the documentary
style feature film Next Time Ned which Raymond executive produced as
well starred in.
