Can a man reinvent his entire self? Former shipyard worker Mick
Sergeant hopes so. In this show, his first at the Fringe, Mick
attempts to answer two of life's most fundamental questions. Two
questions which he gets asked a lot: “Who are you?" and “What
are you doing here?" |
Ah sh*t! It's Mick Sergeant is the culmination of a decade of
hardcore, no thoughts barred contemplation. As an unemployed man, Mick
has more time than most to sit and have a proper think about things. And
he's used that time well.
Now he has answers to these and other huge, fundamental life questions.
If you're unhappy with your life in any way, then this is the show for
you.
If you're completely content with every aspect of your being, then also,
this is the show for you. Because you are wrong. And it's about time
somebody told you.
Mick is the creation of Lee Fenwick and Ben Traynor, who co-write the
character.
Both Lee and Ben have family who worked in Tyneside's shipyards. Growing
up in the shadow of that industry left a big impression on both of them.
But this isn't a sentimental, rueful show about the tragedy of a dying
industry. That wouldn't be very funny.
Lee and Ben started writing together as part of the Newcastle-based
sketch team Soup. In 2004 they began writing and performing characters
on the national comedy circuit.
As well as Mick Sergeant, Lee has performed as one half of Die
Clatterschenkenfietermaus (Europe's Worst Pop Band). He has also
performed as The White Chris Rock, most recently as a special guest in
one of Stewart Lee's shows at the Bloomsbury Theatre in London.

Press Quotes
'Here [Lee Fenwick] has established a believable, layered
personality, rich with subtle touches and more crucially, great
gags...Fenwick could well be the next Steve Coogan or Rob Brydon, such
is his brilliantly nuanced characterisation.’
