Actor,
musician and art prostitute Sandy Nelson began stand-up comedy
in 1997. His knowledge of and passion for music lead him to
satirise the current music scene and those pop stars associated
with the dumbing down of populist art and culture. He was an
instant hit and has gone from strength to strength. He has had two
successful Edinburgh Fringe shows, Bedroom Popstar and
Stand-Up: The Musical. As the most omnipresent bit-part comedy
actor in Scotland,
The Reverend Obadiah Steppenwolfe III
has referred to him as the
Steve Buscemi of Scottish comedy.
Sandy is also one of the founder members of improvised comedy
troupe
Dance Monkey Boy, Dance! Sandy tries to bring a bit
of culture to the proceedings, with varying degrees of success.
The Monkey Boys perform every Monday night at the Stand in
Glasgow, where the show has taken on a cult status. The recent BBC
interest could turn Sandy from bit-part comedy actor to the big
time – see him before it’s too late!
